यह वह समय था जबकि देवता लोग धरती पर रहते थे। धरती पर वे हिमालय के उत्तर में रहते थे। काम था धरती का निर्माण करना। धरती को रहने लायक बनाना और धरती पर मानव सहित अन्य आबादी का विस्तार करना।  देवताओं के साथ उनके ही भाई बंधु दैत्य भी रहते थे। तब यह धरती एक द्वीप की ही थी अर्थात धरती का एक ही हिस्सा जल से बाहर निकला हुआ था। यह भी बहुत छोटा-सा हिस्सा था। इसके बीचोबीच था मेरू पर्वत। धरती के विस्तार और इस पर विविध प्रकार के जीवन निर्माण के लिए देवताओं के भी देवता ब्रह्मा, विष्णु और महेश ने लीला रची और उन्होंने देव तथा उनके भाई असुरों की शक्ति का उपयोग कर समुद्र मंथन कराया। समुद्र मंथन कराने के लिए पहले कारण निर्मित किया गया।  दुर्वासा ऋषि ने अपना अपमान होने के कारण देवराज इन्द्र को ‘श्री’ (लक्ष्मी) से हीन हो जाने का शाप दे दिया। भगवान विष्णु ने इंद्र को शाप मुक्ति के लिए असुरों के साथ 'समुद्र मंथन' के लिए कहा और दैत्यों को अमृत का लालच दिया। इस तरह हुआ समुद्र मंथन। यह समुद्र था क्षीर  सागर जब देवताओं तथा असुरों ने समुद्र मंथन आरंभ किया, तब भगवान विष्णु ने कच्छप बनकर मंथन में भाग ल...
